After the 2015 Gorkha earthquake, a number of communities at risk of future geohazards in the earthquake-affected area were relocated to ‘integrated settlements’. This report describes how this resettlement, while perhaps helping residents to be more resilient to earthquake-related hazards and risks, created a range of social, cultural, and economic issues. In response, displaced residents developed a strategy of ‘circular resettlement’, moving between their new homes and original lands to balance physical safety with livelihoods. The report concludes with a set of recommendations around future resettlement programmes.
